Welcome as we look into a much-needed backup camera installation for the Tacoma and the first episode of the “Build It Yourself Series.” We have always been a big proponent of building your rig around your needs and learning how to BIY (Build It Yourself) so that you can remain self-sustaining and save money. What’s the point of having a crazy rig when you’re
screwed whenever you break something.

BIY “Build It Yourself”

Most Overland content is about the latest, greatest, most expensive builds that are just unrealistic for most. I am building this Tacoma completely BIY. Yes, we can have the argument of you pay for what you get for, but at the end of the day, it’s about doing what you can to get you out there and explore. The reality is many people don’t have the resources to get these crazy turn key systems such as your 12v or your camper set up. Funds are limited and you have to prioritize upgrades.

We are taking my stock 2006 Toyota Tacoma Access TRD Off-Road 6 Speed and building it out from the ground up not with the latest, and greatest, but cost-conscious gear that gets the job done reliably and efficiently.

The first upgrade made to the Taco since getting the ARE DCU Commercial cap is installing a backup camera. Not having a rear window makes some situations sticky. It’s the small things that make driving that much better. This is a straight forward upgrade that will give you peace of mind and turn your driving experience to a new level.
